A
father was listening to his son say
his prayer, "Dear Harold."
At
this, dad interrupted and said, "Wait a minute. "How come you called
God, "Harold?"
The
little boy looked up at his father and said, "That's what they call
Him in church!" You know the prayer we say, "Our Father, who
art in heaven, Harold be Thy name."

I recently found
myself in the emergency room of a hospital supporting a family member.
After many hours of tests and waiting... and waiting and
waiting... and then the doctor informs us that he is going to admit the
patient. While we waited for a bed to become available, my
family member was wheeled out to the hall where several other temporary
beds awaited residence.
Not too long
afterward a young lady, perhaps in her mid 20's was placed in the bed
next to my family member. I could hear her crying and
sobbing. Whatever the trouble, I could feel her pain and wanted to
comfort her, but The Lord said, "not yet." Passing by her once, I
noticed that she was reading "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle, the book
that Oprah is encouraging everyone in the world to read and participate
in the workborks. Later, I heard her Pastor speaking to her, who is a
mutual friend. While I was busy tending to the needs of my
family member, I overheard the Pastor say the words "a topic pregnancy"
as
he spoke to her.
Later I passed
by the young lady's bed and spoke to her. I told her that I
would pray for her. She was so thankful and had this look of
relief on her face. Then I asked her about the book she was reading.
She expressed that she wanted to know more about the
teachings in the book. I then began to gently explain that there has
been a lot of caution
by Christian leaders about the teachings in the book, and that Oprah
herself is always trying to explore new ways of religion yet she calls
herself a Christian. Not too long ago she was advocating a
"me-ego" concept in the teachings of "The Secret" and now these
teachings of "A New Earth" are quite the opposite. I warned her that it
was a mix of eastern mysticism and new age, and did not recommend
involving herself in the teachings of this book.
What really
angers me is that human beings make up the mind of
others by telling them who God is in their minds. They think
that because they've been "enlighted" that they now have the answer.
This is a case of the creation telling the Creator who He
really is. I'm angered because this is even changing the
hearts of some Christians who have been deceived by the teachings in
this book. Somehow I don't think God changes for our convenience based
on our "enlightenment" of His persona. Rather we should be going to the
source of His Word and experiencing the demonstration of His Love.
As
Christians, this kind of knowledge is very important. Being
aware
of this could be the informaiton that prepares you to keep someone else
from going astray. I love Oprah for
the all the great things she does, but her influence is so great that
people listen to her as though she hears the voice of God or that she
is God. Below is a video that has been posted on youtube.com
that clearly segregates Biblical truth from the obsurity
of teachings in the book "A New Earth" as well as Oprah's
own beliefs. (more videos below too)
